Association of Manx Pilots
Andreas. N. 5422.31 W. 00424.98 Andreas airfield is a former WWII base with two asphalt runways providing wide and long landing strips. The asphalt is a bit loose in parts so care is needed when taxiing to ensure stones do not get lifted by the prop wash. Andreas is a private airfield and PPR is required. Telephone 01624 880897 or 07624 473397 or 07624 494521. The owners are pro-aviation and provide excellent facilites at very reasonable rates. A number of private aircraft are based at Andreas including an Auster, Piper Cherokee, Jabiru, Robin DR400, Vans and various gliders. Parking areas are available and there is a portacabin with toilet facilities. Visitors may camp on the airfield by prior arrangement.
The approach to the airfield is straightforward however pilots should pass overhead and check that the Glider Club is not active before making a final approach. The Glider Club do use a winch for launching and it is wise to contact them by calling "Andreas base" on Freq. 130.10. If they are active they will advise on the location of the winch cable if it has been run out. The runway 28/10 is longest (approx 1000m) and widest runway and the one most frequently used, circuits are to the north. The alternative 24/06 is shorter (approx 900m) but provides an excellent option if the wind has moved around, circuits are to the east. Andreas town is to the south-west of the field and pilots should take care to avoid flying over the built up areas. Also about 1 mile to the south is a private estate where to owner operates a Augusta helicopter. If the helicopter pilot is operating the aircraft he usually monitors the airfield freq. 130.10.
Andreas airfield should not be confused with Jurby Airfield (N. 5421.20 W. 00431.10) which is approximately 4 miles to the west. Jurby is now generally closed to air traffic as the runways are used for motor racing.

Approaching from the North East and looking down runway 28. Andreas town can be seen top left. Runway 24/06 can be seen running across right to left.
